Description: I have here for sale a book entitled DISCOVERIES AND INVENTIONS OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY by Robert Routledge, and published by George Routledge and Sons, London, 1891. Eighth edition. Containing 432 illustrations, 9 of which being plates. 8 of the plates being black and white and 1 'Spectra' being in colour. Topics covered include Steam Engines, Railways, Ships of War, Printing Machines, Hydraulic Power, Light, Electricity, Photography, Gold and Diamonds, Aquaria, and Explosives. Bound in red cloth hardboards with gilt lettering to front board and spine, and black illustration to front board and spine. Gilt pages edges. Bumped and chipped to head and tail of spine, and sunned to spine. Front and rear free endpaper have been torn out, and front and rear hinges are split. Binding very slightly pulling at pages 193 & 208. Inscriptions to prelim and half title page, otherwise pages clean. This book is in very good overall condition. 681 pages. 21.5 cm x 16 cm.
