Description: Vintage large antique 1898 hand colored map. Titled Lake Quinsigamond and Surroundings, Based Upon Map Prepared for H.H. Bigelow, Worcester. The map shows the named home and land owners, State Lunatic Hospital, size, style and make of buildings, named business and industry, named railroads, named roads, and much more. This is an antique map and not a reprint or reproduction. The hand coloring on the map is period to the map, this is before color printing was widely used. The map is from the very rare 1898 LJ Richards Atlas of Worcester County Massachusetts, one of the the finest atlases ever done on Worcester County . Richards was one of the best mapmakers of this golden era, creating masterpieces of cartography. The map is a fascinating and historic period look at this area at this time. The size of the map is 22 x 32 inches, linen backed. Condition is good-very good, some wear to margins and folded in half with wear to that seam. Clean, very little soiling, no damp staining, colors are still strong, highly legible, no other creasing except for center seam from Atlas.
