Description: This is nothing less than a “great floor lamp!” Originally it had a white glass bowl which supported a paper or cloth-covered, traditional-style lampshade. I’ve added my own special touch, a fabulous Moderne torchiere shade with an almost 16-inch diameter (that shade, by the way, has three chips along the rim, which are small and don’t disrupt the line of the top. Which is to say, they’re VERY difficult to see -- unless you’re specifically looking for them! ). This floor lamp uses a large “mogul” size bulb, and the turn-key switch on the lamp’s socket cover has four positions: off, low, medium and high. The socket works in all four positions (Mogul bulbs come in several wattages, like 100-200-300). I'm including a “step-down” reducer with this lamp so you don’t need to use mogul bulbs; the step-down reducer allows the use of any bulb with a "standard" sized base. The step-down device easily screws into the mogul bulb hole. A standard-based bulb will work only on the last two clicks – the medium and high setting. There won't be any change in the amount of light. Once upon a time I had the base re-chromed, but the last owner stored the lamp in their basement for a while and the chrome plating on the base got pitted, as you can see in the photo. Otherwise, the chrome on the rest of the lamp is in very good to excellent condition. The Lucite is in perfect condition. If you don’t like this 16" shade, and want to return this lamp to its original function, with a smaller white glass shade-holder, be my guest (one is shown in the last picture). They’re easily found online (they have a 2 7/8" diameter fitter on the bottom and the one shown here (not available) is ten inches across at the top. You might then want to buy that “traditional” shade that I talked about above. If you don't want the large 16" shade in the pictures, I will keep it and take $200 off the price. The lamp, with this shade, stands just under 60 inches tall, and as mentioned, the shade is just under 16 inches across. This lamp will have to be shipped in two boxes, one for the shade (double-boxed) and the other for the lamp base. That's why it's expensive, of course (the shade, double-boxed, takes up a lot of shipping space).
