Description: Handsome fold-out 1954 Gulf Oil Company road map of Tennessee and Kentucky, printed more than 64 years ago. This map opens to 18" x 36" and has great detail on old highway alignments, including U.S. Routes 11, 41, 60, and 70, with cartography by Rand McNally. Kentucky is on one side of the map; Tennessee is on the other. There's an inset map of Great Smoky Mountains National Park which labels the Appalachian Trail, Cades Cove, Clingmans Dome, and other features. This map was published by the Gulf Refining Company in 1954 and is dated by the code number in the lower margin: 4-514517-9. It includes ads for various Gulf products, including car polish, lighter fluid, spot remover, and insect spray. The back cover has a view of a Gulf service station, with a uniformed attendant showing a road map to a traveling motorist. Condition: This map is in very good, lightly used condition, bright and clean, with no rips, tears, or writing. There's a tiny break on one fold corner and a neat rubber-stamp imprint on the back cover from a Gulf service station in Neelyville, Missouri. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.
