Description: Authentic artwork 34 x 26 cm Age: Antique. Beginning of the Shwa period (circa 1930) The legacy of an unknown master of the Edo shunga school. All sketches are unique. These sketches were the basis for further hand painting on silk. The painting was copied by the master's followers onto silk and colored. The final works can be found on the art market. They are not copies, as each artist brought his own vision, added his own style, keeping the basic concept of the sketch. The collection is represented by single works and story lines, unfortunately not complete. Some of the works bear the date of creation, circa 1930, the beginning of the Shwa period. Shunga () is a type of Japanese erotic art typically executed as a kind of ukiyo-e, often in woodblock print format. While rare, there are also extant erotic painted handscrolls which predate ukiyo-e. Translated literally, the Japanese word shunga means picture of spring; "spring" is a common euphemism for sex. The Japanese term Ukiyo-e () translates as picture of the floating world. If you need additional photos, feel free to contact me.
