Description: AntiquesWellington Ward “One man’s junk is another man’s treasure,” it has been said. Well, antiques can certainly be junk, or they can be treasure, but for sure, antique anything is usually expensive. The list of yesterday’s sought-after artifacts goes on and on and their values continue climbing up, up, up, and still there are collectors who wouldn’t miss stopping at a roadside shop or auction for any price. The now discarded glass, iron, furniture and silver that can be found in these out of the way places makes the true collector drive for hours down back country roads searching for these hidden bargains. When one gets the bug to become an antique collector, look out, ‘cause there’s no stopping him. I know, because I’m one myself. Wellington Ward Preferring to paint what is old, Wellington Ward comments, “To me, it contains much more of the beauty of life than that which is shiny and new.” His love for water and shoreline painting is attributed to his youth spent in the naval seaport of Norfolk, Virginia, and later his years spent on the staff of the Commander in Chief of the Atlantic Fleet. With a degree in commercial art from Richmond Professional Institute, he became an art director with the Department of Defense. In 1968 he moved to Fort Myers, Florida and began painting full-time. Of his work he says, “Whatever I paint is accurately recorded from the wormholes in a board on an old boat or house, to the variety of nomenclature that surround it. I try to go beyond what a camera could record and strive to capture the full sensitivity of my subjects.”whiskey barrels, water pump, duck decoy, plow
