Darkseid tasks a team of heroes with capturing the aspects of the ALE and destroying the bombs on each planet. The heroes include Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter, Starfire, and Orion. The story also features an alliance between Highfather and Darkseid, who have long been at odds over control of the universe. Metron, a character in the story, unlocks the secret of the ALE, which could challenge the meaning of life.
