They were made by the Scovill Manufacturing Company that was located in Waterbury, Conn and had offices in Boston, Ma. and San Francisco, Ca. The Scovill Company were specialists in making vanity cases, lipstick cases and metal containers. By 1924, they had been in the business of manufacturing brass products for 122 years.* Later Luxor cosmetic cases were enameled and made in a variety of different designs *When you push the top down powder is dispensed from the bottom. Appears to be Full & IT WORKS The bottom says "Compliments of Luxor Pat. 1872836" Luxor Automatic Powder Dispenser Pen - vintage c. 1930. This is a unique and novel automatic powder dispenser that was introduced by the Luxor Company in 1930. It was somewhat similar in idea to the Princess Pat’s powder dispenser, because both had a cylinder tube that released powder by pressing down upon The Top Button . This Luxor powder dispenser has a retractable Top Button (that is similar to a modern ball point pen.) All one had to do was simply push down on the small retractable plunger that was located at the top of the barrel and the bottom of the container released powder that could then be applied to the face. It was really a novel idea for its time period and caught the attention of women, that most likely wasted a lot of powder by showing their friends how it dispensed powder. It was also a novel way for Luxor to sell more powder each time it was wasted showing others how the dispenser worked! This type of dispenser was ideal for use by women when they were at work, shopping, meeting friends or dining out. It also prevented loose powder from spilling into a lady's purse and making a mess, which was a common problem with loose powder until the invention of pressed powder compacts.
