Description: Large 53” Early 1900s Wooden Barber Pole/Post - Hand Painted (Canadian Version). This hand painted wooden barber pole is 53” tall & has clearly undergone some paint loss in its lifetime. There happens to be just enough paint left on the pole to make it immediately recognizable. This barber pole is a Canadian version because it’s colours are strictly red & white (American versions typically have blue, as well). This is a half pole/post; meaning it was at one point sliced in half down the centre, allowing for two trade signs to be made from what was originally one. Unfortunately, only one piece is available. But, it’s a beautiful piece of barber history, & a gorgeous store display. Similar pieces, typically sell for between $500-$1,000 CDN (& many of them are of lesser quality or much smaller than this particular one). As for a time period for when this barber pole could have been made; I would estimate sometime between 1910 & 1935. But, I could be wrong. Have a look at the photographs & judge for yourself!
