Description: *NEW* from the original Tidwell Art Gallery owner. This print is not pre-owned. 1994 Confetti Rainbows Limited Edition (signed by artist) Charleston Spoleto Print by Miles Batt. 21X28 Spoleto Festival USA was founded in 1977 by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Gian Carlo Menotti, Christopher Keene, and others who sought to create an American counterpart to their annual Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy. Looking for a city that would provide the charm of Spoleto as well as its wealth of theaters, churches and other performances spaces, they selected Charleston as the ideal location. The historic city provided a perfect fit: intimate enough that the Festival would captivate the entire city, yet cosmopolitan enough to provide an enthusiastic audience and robust infrastructure. This is an abstract print of Rainbow Row. Rainbow Row is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Charleston. It's a series of thirteen colorful row houses located on East Bay Street. It's truly a delight! In 1931, Dorothy Haskell Porcher Legge purchased a section of these house numbering 99 through 101 East Bay and began to renovate them. She chose to paint these houses pink based on a colonial Caribbean color scheme. Other owners and future owners followed suit, creating the "rainbow" of pastel colors present today. The coloring of the houses helped keep the houses cool inside as well as give the area its name. Due to the age of the prints slight creases in the edges may occur. These will be unnoticeable once the print is framed. Check out my store for other Charleston posters and prints and Charleston artists. Thank you for looking!
