Description: This metal ashtray is a piece of history from the WW2 era, featuring the USS Stingray (SS-186) submarine. The item belonged to my grandfather who worked for the Elliott Company as an electrical engineer. In the 1930's and during World War II, Elliott supplied the United States Navy with some of the electric motors and generators used in fleet submarines under the name Elliott Motor Company. My grandfather worked onboard the submarines in the Portsmouth NH Navy Yard and also the Naval Submarine Base in New London, CT in the 1930's and 1940's.
