OCP MOLLE II AIRBORNE TACTICAL ASSAULT PANEL A-TAP

Description: Item Condition: New NSN: 8465-01-682-0448 Color: OCP MFG: Sekri Model: MOLLE II, A-TAP Measurement: One Size This is the Airborne TAP that is issued to Airborne Light Infantry units and other Airborne Soldiers in the US Army. It is very different from the standard TAP, instead of a pre-sewn chest rig it is an H Harness. Made up of three separate panels, the harness has a generous amount of space for the mounting of a combat load worth of equipment. The main side panels are rigid, inside the panel is a nonremovable plastic stiffener, that has MOLLE webbing for compatible pouches and accessories. On the inside of those panels is a mesh pocket with a hook and loop flap to secure it shut. The main internal pocket is large enough for maps and other flat items to fit securely, and there is a smaller pocket sectioned off in the back. This pocket is just slightly too small for a standard magazine to fit. The main panels connect at the front with a First Spear Tube buckle. This makes the harness easy to put on and take off with one hand. Connecting the main panels in the rear is a center mesh panel. The rear panel has MOLLE webbing for small butt packs or general purpose pouches and connects to the side panels with standard buckles with adjustable straps. The mesh rear panel is not reinforced with plastic panels. Being mesh, the rear panel does allow for great breathability while worn so that your lower back can help dump excess heat. With the panels being removable, to an extent, you are able to break the panel down to a fairly small footprint for when having to pack the panel away. The H Harness straps are adjustable for height, and are very wide at the shoulders to help comfortably support heavier loads. There is a small amount of webbing on the shoulder straps, both in the front and at the back, for the mounting of small pouches or other gear if needed. The shoulder straps attach to the rear with a simple webbing buckle. At the front is attaches with a two point system to each side panel. The strap weaves into a webbing buckle as well as a standard buckle. The standard buckle can be released, allowing the harness as a whole to drop a little in worn height. With this drop, a Soldier is able to wear the harness while wearing both a main and reserve parachute. While not something most people have to deal with, the additional points of contact add to the robustness of the harness overall. While capable of being worn over a minimalistic style plate carrier, the harness is mainly intended for standalone wear and use. Overall, this is a fairly impressive USGI, standardish issue, piece of gear that takes some elements from the old FLC and incorporates them into an H Harness. The rigid side panels wrap around the wearer just fine, while keeping gear firmly in place. The looser rear panel allows for some pouches to be attached if needed, and if left slick the wear of a backpack with the harness is super easy. Wide unpadded shoulder straps are nice for wear for long durations and the harness is adjustable for a wide range of fitment.
