ONE FANCY PENN 'C-20' CIRCA 1890-1900 RIM LOCK SET w/ KEY, VERY NICE (17439) Vintage Penn Hardware Rim lock, circa 1890-1910. Penn made this lock in many variations that it private labeled for companies like Shapleigh Hardware Co in St. Louis (usually marked SHC), Simmons Hardware in St. Louis (usually marked RL for their Royal Lock Co brand), Van Camp Hardware in Indianapolis, A. B & C., etc. So far, we have collected nine different versions of the same lock. The most often seen is the C-20 for the version that was made to celebrate the advent of the 20th Century prior to 1899 and then C * (star) version used after from 1900 and apparently thru the end of WWI. This particular version is the 'C-20' version, circa 1890-1900 made to celebrate the advent of the 20th Century. We have removed all the old dirt, oil and paint by bead blasting the box and then restored the interior of the lock and restored the exterior to black. The lock body measures 4 1/4" wide and 3 1/4" high, keeper is same height. Heavy duty & high quality, functions perfectly, brass safety lock also functioning perfectly. The lock is reversible.
