Description: Estate FindFrench EmpireVases We offer a pair of early nineteenth century Old Paris gilt and polychrome vases in the French Empire style. Each ovoid body is raised by an oval socle with a rectangular plinth base raised by four claw footed feet. Lion masks form the handles. The gilt vases are decorated by front and back polychrome cartouches hand painted with landscapes featuring ancient architecture. Each vase and socle base are attached by a rusted metal rod and nut. One base is marked with an incised "X".Each vase measures 14 1/2" in height with a width of 8 1/2" at the lion mask handles. The upper oval rim measures 6 1/2" in width and 4 1/2" in depth. The rectangular base measures at the claw feet 5 1/2" in width and 4" in depth. As seen in the photographs, one vase has restorations to one of the lion mask handles and to the oval socle base. The second vase has a chip on each side at the upper rim of the socle base. The pair of French Empire vases are presented in gently used antique condition.
