Description: Restored Acoustic Research AR XA manual turntable. My goal with this restoration was to achieve a level of appearance and functionality as close to original condition as possible, while incorporating a few modifications for ease of use and improved performance. The result is a great sounding turntable that also sounds great. This unit was completely disassembled and every part was cleaned, repaired or replaced if necessary, or upgraded/modified. All metal parts cleaned and polished. • Original motor replaced with new Origin Live DC motor kit with Advanced Speed Control Box which allows a basically seamless transition between 33 1/3 and 45 RPM with just the turn of a knob. No more removing the platter and moving the belt up or down on the motor pulley. Includes external power supply and custom drive belt. • Tonearm pivot assembly rebuilt with sapphire pivot cups. Provides a more stable pivot assembly and improved bass response. Pivot screws micro-polished to match up with new pivot cups. • Original worn headshell replaced with new injection molded replica from Best Audio. Practically identical to the original. Extra headshell included. • Tonearm re-wired with 34 gauge Litz tonearm wire from KABUSA.com. • Original phono cord replaced with new Cardas gold plated eutectic brass RCA connectors mounted on rear of turntable enabling the owner to use whatever phono cables they wish. Mogami brand phono cable provided. • New Audio Technica AT-VM95ML cartridge provided. Mounted in headshell. Cartridge has approximately 10-15 hours of use from testing. • Sub-platter spindle and bearing refinished and polished. • Sub-chassis bearing wells cleaned and crosshatched and fitted with new thrust plates. • Bearing wells oiled with George Merrill’s special black spindle oil. • Original suspension springs replaced with AR Upgrade suspension kit from Vinyl Nirvana. • Suspension tuned to proper balance and platter height. • Outer platter polished to mirror like finish. • New solid cherry wood plinth built by expert plinth maker. • Metal plinth/top plate media blasted and powder coated matte black by a professional powder coater. • On/off switch/cueing panel replaced with custom CNC machined panel. • New foam platter mat. • New drive belt from Vinyl Nirvana. • New dustcover which will be shipped separately. Dustcover pictured is from my personal collection and is used for illustration purposes only. Actual dustcover may or may not include the etched AR logo. I’m not certain because I haven’t opened the box it was shipped in. But they are from the same manufacturer and are definitely identical in every other way. • Thoroughly tested over several hours with various types of my favorite music. • I have shipped many turntables (mostly AR) and know what it takes to insure they arrive safely in their new home.
