Description: This 1904 copy of The Virginian is a hardcover book with red cloth cover and a black inked design on the front. The outer cover is now a brick red, but it looks darkened with age. It has scuff marks and there is a mysterious spot on the back. The inside front cover has a some stains and a tiny ink scribble, and the very first page, also stained, has a penciled dedication dated July 16th, 1904. The light brownish-yellow stains on the front and back covers are also on the first and last pages, as well as the outside. The pages themselves are clean and easy to read, the ink not at all faded. The page ends are dusty-looking, as if the book had been kept in an old room for a long time (which it likely had). The binding is in decent shape though a little worn. The corners are worn, and the bottom corners are dog-eared. The book appears used but sturdy. I added three pictures of pages. The first is the title page, the second is a page that shows the quality of the text, and the third is a listing of other 'new' novels of the time. Lighting was hard to get right: The first picture is the truest to the book's color.
