Description: This is a very nice and VERY RARE U.S. Navy Bureau of Ordnance Mark 15 Mod 7 Norden Bomb Sight or "bombsight football", serial N 5741, manufactured by CARL. L NORDEN, the designer of the sight. It has the correct plate with the U (Anchor) S Navy inspection marking and others, though the lower right corner was filed off for some reason. I , as well as some others in online forums that have seen this periodically like to think this means it was used in a mission recorded and was filed for secrecy? It is marked at the bottom of the plate by CARL. L NORDEN suggesting just pre-war and earlier made, and also has the U (Anchor) S Navy inspection marking, so while it is a USAAF order, it was used by the U.S. Navy and bears their inspection marking. Most likely was mounted to a naval carriers bomber! It is mounted on the metal carrier used to load it into the bomber and store it when not installed. It’s marked FRONT on one side. Has the earlier design foam rubber shield circling. As far as I can see by the specs it is fully intact. However I do not own a bomber to test its accuracy or working order, sorry. From the specs and historical blue printing, this example is not only authentic down to the crosshairs, but has never been modified or restored. With that said , it’s surely due for a cleaning.
